for larger version       Go Midwood, Go Castellano Long time archrivals finally got the chance to battle for the lacrosse championship title on the field. Since the start of the Public School Athletic League (PSAL), the champions were decided by which team had the best record at the end of the season. Midwood has won this title consistently since PSAL began. This year however, they had the opportunity to win the championship on the field. Tension was high; both Cordoza and Midwood wanted the title, and each believed they would be victorious. Charles Castellano, one of the best players on the team discussed the excitement surrounding the game. Midwood was down 3-0 in the first quarter, and came back to win 8-6. The championship was Midwood’s for another year. Charles is a senior at Midwood, and has only been playing lacrosse 3 short years. He was named Best Offensive Player, and was selected for the All City Team. He had an outstanding overall record of 35 goals and 25 assists. He transferred from Brooklyn Tech to Midwood his sophomore year when a friend suggested he play lacrosse. Charles is a two time defending champion in karate, and believes that his training in karate gave him an advantage in picking up lacrosse so quickly. Charles looked back at his time at Midwood quite fondly. "It was a great experience being on the team. We’re like a family." The friendships he made at Midwood and especially on the team are among his fondest memories, next to of course winning this years PSAL championship. "I never got the same feeling from any other team than the one I got at Midwood." For anyone interested in playing lacrosse at the high school level, Charles recommended, "not to take anything for granted. You’ll miss it when it’s over. Take advantage of it while you can." Charles is still deciding between Stonybrook and Albany, which are both division I schools. He would like very much to continue to play lacrosse and has every intention of trying out for the team. We would like to wish him the best of luck in college, and would like to congratulate him on an amazing season.
