Sign Of The Times

New signs now adorn the Rockaway beachfront. This sign, on Beach 9 Street nearby where the three young girls drowned last summer, provides virtually the same warning in three languages - English, Spanish and Russian. "Ocean Beaches Are Affected by Strong Currents and Sudden Drop-Offs. Please Use Caution When Swimming." The sign adds the warning that lifeguards are on duty from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and that "Swimming Is Prohibited At All Other Times."
