Wave Hits Internet Heights

When The Wave began its website in 1999, nobody at the paper was sure exactly what impact it would have on the printed version of the paper nor whether it would be widely used by either locals or by those in other parts of the nation.

A recent report, however points to the fact that The Wave has come into the Internet age in a large way.

According to that report, The Wave’s website generates up to 280,000 page views per month.

That means that people accessing the site visit multiple pages within the site in an ever-increasing pattern. In June of 2000, approximately 40,000 page view "hits" were recorded. A year later, there were 100,000 hits per month.

The highest usage came in November of 2001, when American Airlines Flight 587 crashed on the streets of Belle Harbor. That month, there were 280,000 page view hits on the site.

In the following months, the number of hits declined to 210,000 in March of this year. Since that time, however, the usage has been climbing once again. In May, there were 260,000 page view hits on The Wave site.

The Wave website can be found at www.rockawave.com.
