Bus Strike Update

At press time, the strike against three Queens private bus lines continued, although indications from union officials were that it would end by the weekend.

While Rockaway’s major line, the Green Bus, was not involved directly in the strike, a number of Jamaica Bus Lines routes do impact on commuters traveling to and from Rockaway. The major issue in the strike, which affected 180,000 riders on Wednesday and Thursday, is job security. Workers want to be assured that they will keep their jobs should the city offer their lines to a new franchisee.
