Mayor To Host Dominican Community
At Riis Park Memorial Ceremony Sunday

Mayor Giuliani will host a memorial service for the Dominican victims of Flight 587 this Sunday, November 18, at 2 p.m. at the Riis Park Bathhouse.

On the agenda is a memorial ceremony from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. Relatives and friends of those who perished on Flight 587 will be invited and bused to Riis Park by the city. It is expected that the buses will run from several points in both Washington Heights and in Brooklyn.

Following the memorial ceremony, the people attending the memorial will be bused in small groups to Beach 131 Street and Newport Avenue, where they will have a chance to view the crash site and then to leave a single rose apiece in memory of those they have lost.

While no Rockaway residents have been invited to the memorial, sources close to Community Board 14 told The Wave that the organization will join with Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer in hosting a memorial service of its own sometime after Thanksgiving.

A number of people who live in the area of the crash site are reportedly planning on welcoming the Dominican visitors by providing both hospitality and refreshments.
