Free Turkey Dinners will be served on November 20, from noon to 3 p.m., at the Apostolic Christian Fellowship Temple, located at 411 Beach 30 Street, in Far Rockaway. All are welcome.

"Sistas Reachin’ Out", a grass root Community Based Organization (CBO) is conducting an essay contest for youth between the ages of 12-16 from the Far Rockaway area. The primary purpose of the essay contest is to offer youth an opportunity to speak their mind in a structured and public forum. It is also an opportunity for young people to demonstrate their abilities and vision in improving our communities. The topic of the essay is: "What issues affect you and your family in the community?" Using the principles of Kwanzaa, you must tell how you would correct the problem. Send your 500 word typed essay to P.O. Box 920126, Arverne, New York 11692 by December 7, 2001. The prize is $75.00.

The Farmers’ Market reopened for another season in July, and the season will run until November 17, 2001.

Temple Beth El of Rockaway Park invites you to join them for Shabbat Morning Children’s Service on November 17, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Beach 121 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard. Come sing songs, hear stories and have fun. Ages pre-school to second grade are welcome. Refreshments will be served.

The Queens County Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) and the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH) will hold their 126th Annual Corporate Ball on Saturday, November 17, at 8 p.m. at Antun’s, 96-43 Springfield Boulevard, Queens Village. The guest of honor and recipient of the Harry S. Murphy Catholic Action Award will be Father Kevin Sweeney, Coordinator of the Irish Apostolate of the Dioceses of Brooklyn and Chaplain of the Mayo Society of New York. The Rockaway Park Chapter of Hadassah will celebrate its annual "Snowbird Luncheon" at LaViola, in Cedarhurst, Long Island, on November 28 at noon. Reservations must be made by November 20. Contact Marilynn Blicksilver or Lillian Lineoff, at the RPCH, for more information.

The Seaside Branch Library presents "Sing My Heart: A Celebration of the Great Jazz Vocalists" with Francine Connors Due on Saturday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. It is free to the public.

Saint Gertrude’s Church will hold their 90th Anniversary Mass on Friday, November 16 at 8 p.m., to be celebrated by Bishop Ignatius Catanello. They will honor and remember Clara Hinds and Firefighter Eugene Whelan, who were lost in the World Trade Center tragedy.

Saint Gertrude’s Church will celebrate their Annual Dinner Dance on November 17 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Beach 91 Street, beginning at 8 p.m.

The JASA Brookdale Village Senior Center will have free flu shots from the Board of Health on Friday, November 30 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. Call Linda Solomon for an appointment.

The Queens Borough Public Library at the Peninsula Branch will hold a book discussion on "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison on Thursday, November 29 at 6:30 p.m.

St. Virgilis Parents’ Association 13th Annual Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, December 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, December 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the school building. Handmade crafts including wreaths, ornaments, dolls, angels, wood toys, candies and other holiday and year round decorations will be on sale. All donations are welcome.

The Annual Thrift/Flea Market Sale at Bayswater Jewish Center, Healy Avenue in Far Rockaway on Thursday, November 29 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 2 at 12 noon.

P.S. 114/ The Belle Harbor School invites you to their Book Fair on November 16 and 17. On Saturday, November 17 the hours are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a lot of educational books/computer games as well as holiday gift items.

The Sisterhood of Temple Beth-El, Beach 121 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard, will have a bazaar on Saturday, December 1, from 7:30 to 10 p.m., and Sunday, December 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. New and gently used merchandise. Parking available.
