Jr. Ranger Program For Kids

The National Park Service has announced a special summer program for children from the age of 6 to the age of 18 at Gateway National Park’s Jamaica Bay area.

The Junior Ranger program gives participants a chance to work side by side with National Park Service Rangers and to learn about the daily activities necessary to run a park site.

The program also includes an overnight campout, sailing and many other exciting and educational activities. The Program costs $25 per child and runs for six weeks, beginning on July 9. The sessions take place one day a week from 9 a.m. until noon.

There will be two groups for younger children: Ages 6-8 and ages 9-12. Those who are 13-18 years of age can volunteer as program assistants.

June 12 is the deadline date for applications for the program. Those interested should contact Nancy Carona or Megan Buckley at the Gateway National Recreation Center
