for larger version       Cementing the Issue Dear Editor: I write to you regarding the recent closing of Beach 6 Street off Seagirt Avenue, by the New York City Parks Department. Myself along with a very large number of friends and residents are very concerned by this closure. We believe that it creates many safety problems by blocking off this street with very large cement blocks. The cement blocks do not allow resident cars to turn around to leave this dead end block. Should there be a fire in the 711 senior complex the Fire Department would not be able to make its way up the block to the fire hydrant or to turn their fire trucks. Residents are now being dropped off up the block because of this problem. Delivery cars and trucks have to now back their way down the block. Note: Not all residents use the front entrances to be dropped off. It has always been more convenient for some to be dropped off at the 711 back entrances. What reason did the City Parks Department have to do such a thing? We are left very confused as to how, why, and for what reason. Why the NYC Department of Parks and not the Department of Transportation? It’s a city street, not a park. WAYNE MURCHINSON
