Rockaway Little League Gets Some Help

By Jim Hurley

A group of coaches, parents and volunteers have joined together for the purpose of enhancing the Rockaway Little League. These individuals have been active in the little league for a number of years. They are known as the Friends of Rockaway Little League and will work alongside league president, Marty Andersen, and his staff. They will try to ensure that the league remains one of the best programs in Queens.

A primary objective of the team is to raise additional funds. The money raised will be used to hold baseball clinics for the tee ball and peewee players. Also, for the first time ever, the league plans to used organized umpires in the other divisions. Anyone interested in becoming an umpire may contact the league office at 634-4240. College and high school students are welcome.

In cooperation with the Rockaway Council Knights of Columbus, the Friends of the R.L.L. will be holding a "Night at the Races" on Saturday April 7 at 8:00 pm. The Council hall is located at 333 Beach 90 Street. There will be an ad in next week’s Wave with further details.

The Friends of R.L.L. asks that you note this date on your calendar and show your support.
