Charity Rugby Tournament
By Bob Johnson

Rockaway Rugby will be holding their third annual charity rugby tournament at Riis Park this Saturday, with teams from Siena College, Stonybrook University, R.P.I, and Fairfield Colleges.

This year, the Fisheads will be making donations to several different

charities including the rockaway St. Patricks Day Parade Committee, the Tom Regan foundation, and the Special Olympics. There will be a post tournament fund raiser/party at the rugby clubhouse under the heated Fishead tent with live music by the Boston Burglers and DJ Nick. The Fishead float will again be a part of the parade with Nick the Leprechaun joining the ruggers on their journey through the neighborhood.

Rugby matches will begin at 8am at Riis Park with last years champion

Siena College again favored to win. Siena is lead by several local stars including teen Matt "head" Frank, international celebrity Flippy Mullen and young upstart Tom Burns. Fairfield college also sports rockaways own Adam Lynch, affectionately known as "The Breezy Bruiser".

All fans, friends, and alumni are urged to join the team on the float whixh is meeting at Newport avenue and 132nd street at 10:30am. Mardi Gras beads and treats will again be tossed to the crowd from the float. Don't miss it.

    Rugger Pluggers:

Former player Kevin Coursey has abandoned his FDNY rugby mates for their trip to Idianapolis this June and instead will be playing for FDNY basketball.

Jim Coyne, Ray Marten, and Andy Marley are contemplating comebacks this season. Duke Foti has vowed to stay retired. Congrats to Bill and Karen Erhard on the birth of their fourth son Kevin.
