Civic Celebrates Anniversary

Arverne Civic Association celebrated five years of advocating the improvement of the quality of life for the residents of Arverne and surrounding communities at The Beach Club on Saturday, February 24.

Congressman Gregory Meeks honored the executive board, installing new members. Executive board members are Desmond Bailey, president; Ellis Gordon, first vice president; Irma James, second vice president; Helen Rauznitz, third vice president; Dorothy Chatmon, fourth vice president; Althea Newkirk, treasurer; Laura Harris, financial secretary; Sarah Colson, secretary; Mae McKay, corresponding secretary; J.T. White, sergeant of arms; and Michael Carter, parliamentarian. Executive board advisors are Reverend Evan Gray and Henrietta Scott Fullard.

Arverne Civic salutes the community residents, elected officials, and the business community for helping to make the first Reverend Henry Maddox Memorial Scholarship a reality. The recipients were Elizabeth Tabb and Robert Pugh.
