for larger version       Parade Marches Into Town By John C. McLoughlin Rockaway will play host today, Saturday, March 3, to the 26th annual Queens County St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade, which has grown to be New York State’s second largest, will feature honorees and dignitaries, marching bands and bagpipes, dancers, volunteer ambulance and fire corps, local schools, Irish veterans, union representatives and members, elected officials, civic and fraternal organizations, antique cars, and horse drawn carriages and Irish jaunting cart. Mayor of County Limerick Kieran O’Hanlon, Limerick City Engineer Seamus O’Sullivan, and New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani will be marching. "On behalf of the Queens County St. Patrick’s Day Cultural Committee, let me bid to you a warm Cead Mile Failte on this occasion of our 26th annual parade," said Parade Secretary Beverly Baxter. "We dedicate this parade to the memory of Wave Publisher Leon Locke and the ‘green line’ he would always paint down the Boulevard. Since everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, we invite the entire community from the east to the west end to participate and enjoy today’s festivities." The day starts with a full choral mass at St. Francis de Sales Church on Beach 129 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard at 9 a.m. Following the mass a breakfast/brunch, by invitation only, will be held at The Beach Club, 129 Beach 116 Street, at 10 a.m. The parade will kick-off from Beach 129 Street and Newport Avenue at 1 p.m. sharp. The parade route is down Newport Avenue from 129 Street to 116 Street, around the beach block of 116 Street and down Rockaway Beach Boulevard to the reviewing stand on Beach 102 Street to parade end at St. Rose of Lima Parish Hall on Beach 84 Street, where the public is invited to an awards ceremony.
