Voters Informed

Candidates Speak Out

To encourage participation in the upcoming Democratic Primary on Tuesday, September 12, 2000, The Wave will feature various candidates for elected offices representing Rockaway. In this year’s primary, Rockawayites will have the following choices: 9th Congressional District -- Congressman Anthony Weiner (incumbent) and Councilman Noach Dear -- and in the 31st Assembly District -- Assemblywoman Pauline Rhodd Cummings (incumbent) and Dr. Taj Rajkumar.

This week, The Wave kicks-off "Decision 2000 -- Paper Debate," which is a question/answer series running for three weeks. The two congressional candidates -- Weiner and Dear -- will participate in this series as a way to inform the voters on where they stand on various issues. Decision 2000 can be found on page 30 of this week’s edition.

In the September 8, 2000 edition of The Wave, statements from Assemblywoman Cummings and Dr. Rajkumar will be printed to give the community a better understanding of their issues, ideas and solutions.
