Meet The British

Dear Editor;

I'm an American, born of British parents, peacefully living in the
predominantly Irish town of Broad Channel. An avid reader of The Wave, I'm growing more and more impatient with the contents of the weekly "Meet The Irish."

Over and over you bang the drum of what beasts the British are -- your column rouses people to anger and hatred, dredges up old wounds from years gone by...what good does it do?
How about using your column space and influence towards a different end? Let your readers really "Meet The Irish" ...how about highlighting both Irish and British leaders working towards an end to the bloodshed? What has been done cannot be undone. Tell us about the Irish who use their education and resources towards a peaceful end. Let us meet teachers, politicians, industrialists and the like who are moving forward in an intelligent, non-violent way.

Your column is completely one-sided...I try to be more open-minded. I deplore violence no matter who starts it - it is never "justified" as you so often imply on behalf of the IRA.
Whether British, Irish, Protestant or Catholic, we are all humans with good and bad in us. Use your influence to bring us together -- not keep us apart.

VICTORIA ROEHLING
