Imagine that you have suddenly needed to call an ambulance. You are in great distress and all alone. When the ambulance arrives, one of the first things they ask is, "What medicine are you taking?" You are so upset about needing the care, or perhaps you are not able to communicate. This information is vital to your treatment but you cannot give it to them. My son has given me a small but important Mother's Day gift. It is a simple plastic box with a magnet on the back. Inside the box we have put a piece of paper with a listing of my medications and the dosages, the name and phone number of my doctor, etc. If the information changes, we can replace the paper with an update. On the front door of the house is a card alerting the EMTs who might come that this box exists.

I hope the day never comes, but if it does, that little plastic container may
save my life.
