Irish Actress In Rockaway Debut Post Theater at Fort Tilden will be hosting the award-winning Irish actress Margaret Niland in the New York City debut of a new Irish musical play, "A Taste of Ireland-Bridging the Gap". Margaret Niland is the co-author of the play, along with John Gilleece, a Rockaway resident and artistic director of the Rockaway Theatre Company. While Margaret lives in Kilkelly, County Mayo in Ireland, she and John have corresponded and visited each other during the last six months as they were writing the play. The two authors explain that the play is based on the Irish experience over the last 8,000 years and includes Irish songs, scenes, stories, and poems from famous Irish authors. The play had its premiere performance recently in upstate New York and received rave reviews-and three standing ovations form an audience of more than 600 people. Margaret has flown over just for these seven performances. She is joined in the cast by several other Irish performers and musicians and two championship Irish dancers. The play will be performed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 8:00 p.m. on May 21, 22, 23, 28, 29, 30. There will also be a special matinee performance on Sunday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the door or can be purchased in advance at the usual Rockaway Theatre Company sales outlets in the Rockaway and Breezy Point area.
