Defeat Ends Stella Maris’ Playoff Run
      It’s the end of era for the Stella Maris Lady Flippers basketball team. Stella Maris was eliminated in the CHSAA Class B state catholic semifinals playoffs last Saturday night as St. John’s Prep defeated the Lady Flippers, 51-43 in Yonkers.

Championship Games This Weekend At St. Francis
      The 12th Annual Peggy Boyle Girls Basketball Tournament at St. Francis de Sales is drawing to a conclusion with the hosts enjoying a banner year. The semifinal games are scheduled for this Sunday. At 1:00 p.m. St. Francis Blue will take on St. Adalbert in the Subnovice division. The winner will move onto the championship game on March 20 against St. Francis Gold.

World Cup Theme Returns To Peninsula Cup Soccer

Gallagher Takes Second In ECAC 1000-Meter Race
      Last Saturday afternoon, Fordham’s Kerri Gallagher (Belle Harbor, N.Y./ Bishop Kearney) qualified for the ECAC Championship finals with the fastest 1000-meter time in the preliminaries, while teammate Kevin Fitzgerald qualified for the Men’s IC4A Championship 1000-meter with the second best qualifying time.

McCarthy, Kirk Crowned Ice Champions
      Local 15-year olds Mike Kirk and Michael McCarthy recently spent a weekend in Philadelphia for a holiday ice hockey tournament. The boys played for the Merrick-Bellmore IceCats Midget Minor Team in the Long Island Amateur Hockey League. The tourney started off poorly as several teammates had arrived late and the team went on to suffer a 5-4 loss to the team from Howard, Maryland.

Williams One Win Away From The Garden; Hall Loses
      Trevis Hall had a gameplan set when he stepped in the boxing ring on Tuesday night at St. Catherine’s Church in Franklin Square. The aim was to use his boxing skills to outpoint and eventually outscore his 123-pound open division opponent, Marcos Suarez, in the Daily News Golden Gloves.
