Hetzel Goes From Rockaway To Sports Training

SJEH Take Part In Workplace Challenge
      Staff members of St. John’s Episcopal Hospital participated in the Marcum Workplace Challenge and 3.5 mile run/walk on Tuesday, August 3, at Jones Beach. The Marcum Workplace Challenge was a huge success with thousands of runners and walkers participating from all over Long Island. After the run/walk, the St. John’s team enjoyed a catered meal together under a tent.

Arverne Library Holds Grand Re-Opening
      The Arverne Library, which reopened for business in July after nine months of renovation, held an official ribbon cutting and grand re-opening on Tuesday afternoon. Among those in the large crowd were Queens Library CEO Thomas Galante, who thanked “friends of the Arverne Library and great supporters for bringing this to life.”

Bill Announced To Control Raccoons
      Councilmember Elizabeth Crowley, and Assemblymembers Cathy Nolan and Mike Miller were joined by community residents Mary Borzelino and Carol Aiello to announce a new bill that will require the Department of Health to promptly and humanely relocate raccoons when requested by a resident. Currently, there is no city policy assigned to deal with raccoons in New Yorkers’ backyards.

      The Smoke Free Project of NYC is coming back to West End Temple with Addictions Counselor Adam Steiner. This smoking cessation group and program begins with “Not Quite Ready to Quit,” a FREE 2 ½ hour workshop which focuses on understanding nicotine addiction, increasing motivation, and eliminating roadblocks to making the decision to quit.

PS 197 YMCA Summer Day Camp Comes To A Close
      The YMCA of Greater New York operated a day camp with about 100 kids at PS 197Q this summer, which came to a close last week with a Family Fun Day. 100 Precinct Hosting Blood Drive Today
      Sponsored by the New York Blood Center, the 100 Precinct police will be hosting a blood drive, today, September 3 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Residents can donate blood at the precinct house located at 92-24 Rockaway Beach Boulevard. For each presenting donor, a $10 contribution will be made to the Learning For Life foundation. One blood donation can save up to three lives.
